Global Smart phone shipment to grow at 20% in 2013

A smart phone is a device that allows you to make telephone calls with more added features as in a computer. Even though all cell phones allows you to send and receive text messages, a smart phone lets you have access to the internet, send and receive e-mail messages, create and edit Microsoft  office documents. Its keys are laid out in the same way as that of a computer keyboard. It can be in the form of hardware, that is, a physical, with a small keyboard or software that is, tapping digital keys on a touch screen. It allows its user to install, configure and run application of our own choice.

The Operating system of the smart phone is the most important software as it manages the software and hardware resources that determine the choice of apps and phone functionality. The different types of operating systems (OS) are Windows phone (from Microsoft), Symbian OS (from Nokia and Accenture), Blackberry OS (from RIM), iOS (from Apple Inc), Android (from Google), Bada (from Samsung), Palm OS (from Access co).

Due to its portability, Smartphone’s, Tablets, Notebooks and Ipads have become indispensable in our day to day lives and the convenience it offers cannot be ignored. It allows us to be connected nearly anytime and anywhere. The GPS (Global positioning satellite) facility enables the owner to find the direction from the current location to any other location. With the new technology of mobile wallet application, the smart phone can be used as credit cards also, thus turning it into a digital payment portal. It allows you to be connected with the social networking sites like Facebook and twitter, connecting to your friend through instant messaging and making calls via VoIP services as Vonage and Skype. It also gives you a wide choice of gaming application which you can download according to your interest.

In the global market, Android OS smart phones leads in shipment with 68% followed by iOS with 16%. In a worldwide survey of the sales of smart phones, it was found that Samsung and Apple were in top spot with Nokia, HTC and ZTE following its heels. A survey revealed that by 2016, 70% of the people in Europe will own a smart phone.  eBusiness professionals are at the front of this development.  It is important for them to have an organized approach to their customers through this critical touch point.
